OUTINGS AND MATCHES

Outings

The Club holds three main outings each year, in spring, summer and autumn. In 2020, the Club is introducing a new outing, the "1887 Trophy", in early-summer.

We play at courses of the highest quality. Recent venues have included Crail, Lundin Links, Leven Links, Monifieth and the Roxburghe. The Summer Outing is traditionally held at Muirfield.

Our outings are always well attended and played in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere, regardless of ability.

Matches

The Club plays in a variety of matches and competitions throughout the year:

The Dispatch Trophy: a four-man scratch team competition held at the Braids No.1 course.

The Queen Elizabeth Coronation Schools Tournament: a six-man team playing three scratch foursomes, played at the Royal Burgess and open to all former pupil golf clubs in the UK. The Club has won the Tournament in four of the past six years - a fantastic achievement!

The Sivewright Quaich: a Lothian Golf Association handicap competition comprising two foursomes playing off handicaps between 6 and 16.

The Schoolboys Match: a competitive but fun match against the schoolboys of Stewart's Melville College, involving an eight-man team, traditionally held at Murrayfield G.C. in September.

The Gilbert Archer Trophy: a greensomes match with former pupils of the Mary Erskine School against Watsonians played at Ratho Park GC.

The Edinburgh Cup: a handicap six-man competition against former pupils from the Edinburgh Academical Golf Club, Heriots F.P. Golf Club and Watsonians Golf Club played at Prestonfield G.C. The Club is the current holder of the Cup.

The Under-35 Edinburgh Cup: a new competition that mirrors the format of The Edinburgh Cup.

The Rabbit’s Outing: a fun competition for Club members with a handicap of 19 and above, played at Ratho Park G.C.

The Glasgow Match: a fun match against former pupils who are members of the Glasgow Club, for the now-legendary “Mythical Trophy”.
