The Retreat

THE RETREAT

The annual Weekend Retreat is arguably the highlight of the Club’s golfing calendar and is incredibly popular with the Club’s bon viveurs, so signing up early is imperative!

Traditionally held in late September / early October, the Retreat sees up to 24 golfers of all ages and abilities play 45 holes over a weekend, competing for the coveted Weekend Retreat Trophy.

It is a great experience, with the focus firmly on fun, good company and some competitive - but friendly - golf.
The majority of the touring party now meets on a Friday lunchtime to play a course en route to the accommodation venue. This is a great chance to catch up with friends and warm up prior to the 'main event'. An informal dinner is held on the Friday night and the format for the weekend is discussed over some refreshments, along with the fixture that is the Retreat Quiz!

The competition proper starts on the Saturday morning, with a 9-hole stableford competition, often playing a fun format decided on by the Captain (yellow ball, 4 club challenge etc). It also doubles as a qualifyer for the dreaded prestigious Shanker's Tankard!

After a hearty lunch, another 18 holes are played before we reconvene at the hotel for dinner. The social side is a huge part of the weekend, and the formal dinner (including Tour Court – beware the Judge!) is held on the Saturday night.

Previous Retreat venues include Troon, Arran, Montrose, Moray, Aberdeenshire, Royal Deeside, Northumberland and Blairgowrie, and we have played some of the best courses on offer.
